Figuring out how to improve your health can be confusing, but there is ONE thing that anyone can do that will improve a number of health conditions. This one change in your personal health, also offers the additional benefit of stepping towards a healthier planet.
What is the ONE thing?
Eliminating animal products (meat, eggs, dairy) from your diet! Go vegan!
A vegan, vegetable-based diet reduces cholesterol levels and the risks for cardiovascular disease. People on a vegetarian or vegan diet naturally lose weight, reduce inflammation and protect themselves from developing Type 2 Diabetes. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has identified red and processed meats as contributing to cancer. By simply eliminating animal products from your diet, you take positive steps to protect yourself from a number of diseases and conditions.
But what about all this talk about high protein diets?
People don’t need to eat animal products to maintain good health. A vegan diet will provide all the nutrients a body needs to function, with the exception of Vitamin B-12. A supplement once a week that melts under the tongue solves this issue. The larger quantities of potassium, fiber and magnesium, found in vegetables and fruits, reduce blood pressure and contribute to good cardiac health.
In recent years, diets heavy in meats and animal proteins have gained popularity as a way to lose weight and gain muscle. But, you don’t need to eat like a caveman to build muscles. In fact, tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams both eat a raw, vegan diet and are able to maintain their athletic physiques and stamina without eating meat.
You for you, good for Earth
Maintaining a vegetable-based diet is also good for our planet. Factory farms raise meat in the most economically efficient manner, which is often cruel to the living creatures who will find their way onto plates. These animals live short, brutal lives. According to a report by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the meat in our diets:
“…cause more greenhouse gases …to spew into the atmosphere than either transportation or industry.” Source: The Greenhouse Hamburger
The meat on your plate contributes more to global warming than your car or the factory that produced it!
Just by eating vegan, that is a diet focued on fruits, vegetables, nuts, and beans, you can make a huge difference in your health. It is easier and cheaper than doctors’ visits and prescriptions. Your grocery bill will go down, you will lose weight and you can feel good about your part in saving the planet.
